The seed for The Barking Lot was planted a few years back when the founder Stacy Palmer took in her first foster dog, Patti Cake, in hopes of making a bigger impact by helping her favorite furry friends. Before she knew it, she received an e-mail stating, “This dog to be put down on Tuesday at 3p.m.” She was utterly horrified and jumped into action figuring out how she could save her. After getting her adopted, Stacy thought, “That wasn’t so tough.” Over 900 dogs adopted into loving home and 3 years later, you have The Barking Lot.

The Barking Lot rescues dogs from area shelters, humane societies and Mexico as they are at risk of being euthanized and/or abandoned and they find them forever homes perfectly suited to their needs.

The Barking Lot is holding a BIG DOGS ROCK Adoption Event on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Fiesta Island in San Diego, CA. This HUGE adoption event features dogs over 50 lbs and they need volunteers. Please reply if you’re able to help!! stacy@thebarkinglot.net.

The Companion Animal Protection Society has joined the Santa Cruz SPCA and the Societé Défense des Animaux to mobilize a rescue program, Rescue Riviera / Sauvetage Riviera , that will take adoptable dogs out of certain death in over-crowded California shelters and airlift them to France, where they will be placed in adoptive homes.

According to French animal welfare associations, there is a dearth of small, adoptable dogs that are suited to city dwellers in France. Because of the lack of adoptable small dogs in French shelters, dog lovers are buying animals in pet shops, furthering the suffering of animals bred in puppy mills.

In the United States, there is such a surplus of small adoptable dogs, 25% of them purebred, that shelters are killing them for lack of space and in France, there are not enough small adoptable dogs and there are people who would gladly adopt them. But Riviera Rescue/ Sauvetage Riviera needs your help to make this happen.

Riviera Rescue/ Sauvetage Riviera is a program that pulls a manageable number of small adoptable dogs at a time. The dogs are sterilized, micro-chipped and vaccinated, quarantined for 21 days, treated (if needed) for respiratory infection or parasites and then flown from death row to freedom in France. They are planning the first Riviera Rescue this summer, with French and American media covering the story. A film crew will be documenting the rescue from the worst Los Angeles shelters of seven lucky dogs who will survive. Once the first seven have been rescued, they will be ready for the next airlift.

Generous sponsors including American Dog Magazine, Hope for Paws and Air France are already on board. But they need more help to rescue more death row dogs. If you can help with the price of the fare ($112), please contact us at Hollywoodjinky@gmail.com.

Join the cause because animal suffering has no borders.

Since 2003 First Coast No More Homeless Pets has facilitated more than 55,000 pet sterilizations in the First Coast area of Jacksonville, FL. There has been an overall reduction in pet intake of approximately 31%, and reductions in puppy and kitten intake of 44% and 52%. Prior to their programs, admissions and euthanasia were increasing by as much as 10% annually.

First Coast No More Homeless Pets was founded in 2001 when Rick DuCharme, founder and Executive Director, developed the SpayJax program in response to a request by the City of Jacksonville for a city funded spay/neuter program. Following SpayJax, SpayNassau was developed along with two other low-cost programs. In 2006, their Trap-Neuter-Return program was developed to offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for feral and stray cats.

FCNMHP opened a high volume, high quality spay/neuter clinic in April 2009, to facilitate the needed increase in surgeries. Much research has been undertaken to ensure the success of this facility including touring many high volume clinics in the Southeast and seeking a mentoring relationship with recognized experts in the field of high volume pet sterilizations. The spay/neuter clinic is modeled after the most effective clinics in the country that focus on high volume and high quality pet sterilizations. The clinic is designed with the capacity for up to 200 daily sterilizations, making it one of the highest volume clinics in the country when at full capacity.

Dave Sharpe is a combat veteran who served overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his return to the U.S., Dave found that the hardships of war started to take a toll on him. However, with the aid of pet therapy and his loving dog, Cheyenne, Dave was able to get his life back to normal. Motivated by this experience, he and other combat veterans formed Pets2Vets.

And of course monetary donations are always welcome. All of the money donated goes directly to the dogs and helps to cover costs which include transport, food, behavioral training, supplies, vet care, and medical supplies. Every foster dog is spayed/neutered, gastropexied(when possible), vaccinated, heartworm tested, dewormed, microchipped, and they treat any pre-existing conditions that they might come in with.

The non-profit rescue group, located in Ennis, TX, is suffering budget shortfalls and is closing Oct. 30, 2009. While Camp Wolfgang primarily rescues German shepherds, there are also many other breeds, including a significant number of Rottweilers.

Sadly, there are nearly 200 dogs in the rescue and it is being reported that the dogs who are not adopted by month’s end will be moved to high-kill shelters, or euthanized. People throughout Texas and nearby states who are considering a new dog should consider adopting from a rescue.

Local rescues are trying to help Camp Wolfgang, but there is limited space. Every dog that is adopted out (from any Texas rescue) creates an opening for an at-risk dog at Camp Wolfgang. If you are able to foster a dog, please consider doing so now.

If you live in the area and are able to help one of these dogs, please contact the Kennel Master, Leisha Livengood at 214-755-1627.
