Pets2Vets

10212009

The mission of Pets2Vets is to pair homeless pets with combat veterans, law enforcement/emergency personnel, and those affected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorderin order to:

  • Help our nation’s heroes and their families with rehabilitation through pet therapy
  • Save sheltered pets from being euthanized by providing them with homes
  • Raise public awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Dave Sharpe is a combat veteran who served overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his return to the U.S., Dave found that the hardships of war started to take a toll on him. However, with the aid of pet therapy and his loving dog, Cheyenne, Dave was able to get his life back to normal. Motivated by this experience, he and other combat veterans formed Pets2Vets.

According to the Washington Animal Rescue League’s Facebook page, “Lundy was our first successful adoption through our new Pets2Vets program! He went home over the weekend to provide happiness, love and companionship for a veteran. Several more Pets2Vets adoptions are pending, including homes for Ernie and Rima! Pictured here is Rima and her new loving dad/veteran, Dave.”
