Patriot Paw Service Dogs on NBC Nightly News

Making a Difference for Veterans and Dogs

05142009
Lori Stevens is the founder of Patriot Paw Service Dogs and the owner of Country K9 Academy, a family pet training facility. Lori works, with the assistance of Beau, K9 Education Instructors, and the volunteers of Patriot Paws, to give back the freedoms that were lost to disabled veterans and help them in their struggle to live as independently as possible.

The primary trainers of the service dogs are the Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmates. The inmates are trained and supervised by Lori and her professional staff. Final customization of the service dogs is done by Lori at the Patriot PAWS training facility in Rockwall, Texas. In addition, Lori trains foster parents that commit to initial care and working with the dogs in their homes. Training costs approximately $20,000 so donations and volunteers are crucial.

Any physically disabled American Veteran can apply for a Patriot Paws Service Dog. This service is also available to other Americans with mobile disabilities.
